Boire! Eat! Drink! Thurs Jan 10, 6:30pm: Costieres de Nimes<p>For this week’s Manger! Boire! Eat! Drink! meal we will explore the area of the Southern Rhone in France known as the Costieres de Nimes. Between the low rocky hills and garrigue that mark the border of the Languedoc with Provence, and the low sandy plain of the Camargue in the Rhône delta, the Costieres de Nimes is a relatively newly-recognized region (1989 made AOC) and the soil is mostly a mixture of round pebbles (“galets”) similar to Chateauneuf du Pape, and sandy alluvial deposit and red shale. The climate is Mediterranean, similar to that of the Rhône valley, but is characterised by its proximity to the coast and the sea breezes. Along with some delicious wines from the region we will feature a menu with a choice for appetizer, House-made Fromage de Tete – or- a classic Salade Lyonnaise with a poached egg, garlic croutons, and red wine jus. This will be followed by a roasted filet of Mediterranean sea bass with Cotes du Rhone Sauce, and a traditional dessert for January in France, La Galette du Rois, almond cake with poached pears.</p> <p>As always, wine, food, recipes & a cooking demonstration will be $35. excl tax and tip.
